Formation of The Club

Rotary Club of New Panvel  a member of district 3131 then 3130 and 313 covers the area of New Panvel encompassing Khanda Colony, New Panvel (West) and New Panvel (East). It was sponsored by Rotary Club of Panvel. Rtn Rasikbhai Thakkar assumed the role of  mentor as Governor’s Special Representative to guide the new members about Rotary and its activities. GSR started his activities of holding the meetings with the prospective members since October 1986. The application with the member list was sent for approval on 02/02/1987. The club was approved & chartered by Rotary International on 15/02/1987 and the charter presentation function was held on 03/06/1987 with  Rtn. D. A. Admuthe as its charter president with 30 charter members.

The charter presentation function was held in the august presence of the then Dist. Governor Rtn. Appasaheb Tulpule of  Dist. 313 at Hotel Welcome Inn at Panvel. Rtn. D. A. Admuthe became the first Paul Harris Fellow of the club. The club sponsored Rotaract Club in 1988. The club formed Rotary Club of  New Panvel Charitable Trust which was registered with the Charity Commissioner on February 24, 1989 under Reg. No. E 206 (Raigad).

The club was in district 313 from 1987 to 1995. From 1996 the district was renamed as 3130. In the year 2008-2009 district 3130 was bifurcated into 3131 and 3132. Pune and Raigad region were clubbed into 3131 whereas Latur, Satara, Ahmednagar, Osmanabad, Beed were grouped into 3132.

Rotary Club of New Panvel sponsored the Rotary Club  of Uran which was chartered on 16th Aug 1990 with Rtn Eknath A Chavan as GSR.
Rotary Club of Panvel Industrial Town was sponsored and received its charter on 15th March 1989 with Rtn D A Admuthe as its GSR.
The club has sponsored the Rotaract Club of New Panvel in 1988.

The club formed Rotary Club of New Panvel Charitable Trust and registered with charity commissioner on 24/02/1989 under Reg. No. E 206 (Raigad) mainly to start the project of Blood Bank in the year 1988-89. The blood bank project was approved and Matching Grant No. 3950 was allotted by  the Rotary Foundation on 18/10/1993. The sponsoring club was Rotary Club of AKE Nigeria. The total amount received from the foundation was Rs. 11,60,293.80 on 11/10/1994.

Rotary Club of New Panvel has been successfully operating the Rotary Blood Bank since 1996. The area under our club’s jurisdiction is highly endemic with regular outbursts of Dengue, Malaria and other diseases.  There is no blood component laboratory in Panvel and patients needing blood components viz wbc’s, platelets, plasma etc.., have to go as far as Mumbai in times of emergencies. In order to overcome the  patients dilemma, and to save their valuable time and in turn save their precious lives, Rotary Club of New Panvel established a Blood Component Manufacturing Laboratory in Rotary International's Centennial Year 2005. Major donor for this laboratory is club member Rtn. Anil Parmar, donation for which was received in memory of his late father Shri L M Parmar
